Kristin Youngquist (PhD Student)

Area of Interest: Urban Climate Change and Resilience, Southeast US medium and small cities, GIS and Remote Sensing, Climate Communication

Prior to continuing her education, she worked for three years as a program analyst at the Georgia State Senate Budget and Evaluation Office followed by three years as the Director of Administration for the Georgia Secretary of State. Before working in policy and finance, Kristin completed a year in a technical temp position at the Georgia Tech Research Institute and managed many aspects of the Habitat for Humanity-DeKalb local affiliate, including serving as Interim Executive Director and as a member of the board.  Kristin holds a Master of Public Administration degree from Georgia State University, Master of Science degree from Columbus State University, and a BA in Astrophysics from Agnes Scott College.  She enjoys spending her free time playing outside with her husband, Trevor, and daughter, Jacky.


Kristin Youngquist’s teaching interests include environmental science, sustainability, and urban climate and resilience. She currently teaches at Sustainability and the Environment at Columbus State University. Her primary research interests are in the field of urban climate and resilience, urban land cover and land use change, remote sensing, and GIS. She has used GIS and remote sensing techniques to understand the human and environmental interactions. Her current research is related to medium-sized southeast US cities climate resilience planning regarding climate impacts, solutions, and communication. She is a member of the Clean Energy Columbus organization that seeks to educate the public and city officials on local climate issues in order to support climate readiness planning efforts.
